Annaprashan is done when your child is ready to go from a liquid diet to one that includes solids.
What foods are served to babies in annaprasan?
While rice is traditionally given to a baby as their first bite of solid food, other foods can also be given to a baby at the Annaprashan ritual.
Kheer or payasam, fish, meat dishes, dal or sambar, fried rice and pulao are a few of these foods.
What safety precautions must to be taken before the Annaprashan Sanskar?
- Give the baby everything you believe will be healthy for him to eat. Plain rice is a delicious alternative to Kheer if you think it will be too much for the child
- Hygiene and sanitation are very important since you don’t want your child to become sick from eating contaminated food
- Speak with his paediatrician beforehand to make sure you’re giving your kid the right foods
- Wash your hands before feeding the baby, and tell everyone else to do the same to avoid spreading diseases
- The infant can become overwhelmed by too many visitors. Make sure not to invite too many people to avoid overcrowding the venue
- A newborn needs to feel comfortable at all times, thus during the ceremony, he needs to be dressed in cosy, soft garments
- Ensure that the baby’s clothing has room around his belly so that he can freely eat his first solid food

What is the significance of Annaprashan Muhurat?
The muhurat for Annaprashan 2024 is calculated using the newborn’s nakshatra.
The shubh muhurat for Annaprashan 2024 will be calculated for baby males in the 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th month after birth, and for baby girls in the 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th month after birth.
Any new action should be started after determining the correct muhurat.

When Should Annaprashan Be Done?
When the baby is between the ages of five and twelve months, the feeding rice ceremony, also known as Annaprasana muhurtham, must be done.
It is commonly conducted in the even months for males when they are in the sixth, eighth, tenth, or twelveth month, and in the odd months for girls when they are in the fifth, seventh, ninth, or eleventh month.
The time is picked because the children have the strength to digest the rice and grains.
